The QuickVue Dipstick Strep A test detects group A streptococcal antigen from a throat swab or confirmation of presumptive Group A streptococcal colonies recovered from culture. This rapid qualitative test is intended to help diagnose strep A infection.The test is a lateral flow immunoassay and detects viable or nonviable organisms from a throat swab or culture. It has an overall accuracy of 95%, sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 98%. Reagents A and B are used to extract antigen from the swab. The dipstick is then added to the extracted sample. Results are available in just five minutes. Two-color endpoint makes the results easy to read and interpret.
